Paul King TEP
Paul King TEP is the founder and CEO of April King Legal and a Registered Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP). Over the last 25 years, he has given over 100 guest talks to groups and organisations as diverse as the British Gas Retirement Association, the Police Federation and the MoD. He spoke at the 2013 London Annual Bar Conference for Barristers in recognition of his work with Public Access Barristers. In November 2016 he was invited to speak at Legal Futures Conference in London, addressing over 250 leading peers from the Legal Profession. Paul has appeared on local radio for the BBC and contributed to articles in both the local and national press, not to mention various legal magazines including Modern Law.
Lee Southern Solicitor
Solicitor Lee Southern was admitted to the roll in June 1982. He holds the LL.B (Hons) (Bachelor of Laws) and is a member of CoPPA. Prior to joining the team, he has worked in many areas of law including matrimonial, conveyancing and civil litigation. He has also represented clients both in the Queen’s Bench Division and Court of Appeal. Lee’s conveyancing experience is extensive and he is, therefore, able to advise other team members on all property matters that arise during estate planning, together with overlap matters such as where divorced couples have not adequately protected their estates against future claims. He further contributes to the firm’s blog and newsletter on conveyancing matters that affect our private client base. In addition, where a team member identifies that a client has lost capacity, Lee assists with an application to the Court of Protection for either a Deputyship Order or Statutory Will as appropriate.
Emma Adkins Solicitor and TEP
Emma is an experienced Private Client Solicitor and a fully qualified member of STEP (The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners). Emma is responsible for developing April King’s Academy training programme for new graduates. Prior to joining the team, she has worked with a number of highly respectable firms including Fraser Brown and Knights. Emma studied law at Nottingham Trent University and was awarded her degree with First Class Honours. She went on to study the LPC at Nottingham Law School, achieving a Distinction.
Tom Ashmore PhD
Tom is a Private Client Advisor and Trainee Solicitor at April King. He works in the firm’s tax team, dealing with all aspects of estate and inheritance tax planning. Prior to joining the firm, Tom worked with international leading IP firm Potter Clarkson. He holds a BSc with first-class honours from the University of Nottingham, together with an MPhil and PhD from the University of Cambridge. Whilst studying at Cambridge he was a recipient of the Early Investigator Commendation which recognises the accomplishments of promising young researchers.
Charlotte Pinkham Solicitor and FCILEx
Charlotte is a Chartered Legal Executive and Solicitor. She studied her LL.B (Bachelor of Laws) at the University of Leicester before attending the University of Law to complete the LPC. Prior to joining the April King team in 2017, she gained previous legal experience at Land Rover Modi Motors, and volunteered with the Citizens’ Advice Bureau.
Myles Bigland BA (Hons.) CPE DipPFS
Myles completed his Law Degree conversion course back in 2002 at City University, London and worked in Public Affairs for Network Rail and then moved to work for The Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx), spreading the word about the ‘third way into Law’. Latterly he has worked for St. James’ Place Wealth Management, helping people to secure their financial retirement plans. Helping you with your Wills and Estates is a natural segue for him.
Elisabeth Evans FCILEx
Elisabeth is a Chartered Legal Executive and qualified lawyer, who looks after clients in the Yorkshire area. Prior to joining the team in June 2017, she worked as a Senior Caseworker in the House of Commons. Liz has also previously provided support and advice for three years at the Citizen’s Advice Bureau. Liz was awarded the LL.B (Bachelor of Laws) by Birmingham City University. She then went on to complete the LPC at the University of Huddersfield.
Harjit Soor GCILEx
Harjit holds GCILEx status with the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives and she has completed both the LL.B (Bachelor of Laws) and the LPC. Working at our head office in Nottingham City Centre, she manages our probate work, dealing with Executors and Personal Representatives when a client dies. Harjit is fluent in Punjabi.
Aurela Qerimi GCILEx
Aurela holds GCILEx grade with the Institute of Legal Executives and currently looks after our clients in the London area. She is fluent in both Italian and Albanian. Prior to joining us in 2019, she worked for two years in the property department of a Central London solicitors’ firm and a year at a firm in North London. She has also worked as an Appeals Arbitrator for London Councils, and volunteered for around 12 months at a number of Civil rights firms. Aurela was awarded the LL.B (Bachelor of Laws) with Upper Second Class Honours from the University of Westminster. She completed her LPC with the BPP Law School and her dissertation was on the topic of Human Rights law. Outside of work, Aurela enjoys pilates and yoga.
Taaha Ahmed BA (Hons.)
Taaha was awarded a BA by Coventry University in Law and Practice with First Class Honours. His dissertation discussed the origins of youth crime. He looks after our clients primarily in the West Midlands region and is fluent in Bengali. Taaha is a member of the Law Society.
Daniel Lord LL.B (Hons.), LL.M
Dan holds an LL.B (Bachelor of Laws) from Nottingham Trent University with First Class Honours. In addition, he was awarded the LL.M (Master of Laws) in Sports Law with Distinction. Dan has been with us since 2015 and specialises in Lasting Power of Attorney applications. In addition to looking after our LPA clients, he trains new team members in this area.
Following successful careers in sales and catering, Paul moved into Private Client law and he has been advising clients since 1994. He frequently delivers presentations to groups and societies on legal topics. Outside of work, his main interests are reading, gardening, theatre and golf – and increasingly archaeology!
With over 25 years of experience in private client, Martin Jones is one of the longest-standing members of the firm. He was one of our initial team at Nottingham HQ and he is now based in Warrington, serving clients in Warrington, Manchester, Liverpool and the Wirral. Outside of work, he has discovered a passion for walking in recent years, and treks both in this country and abroad when time allows.
Sofia Rashid ACILEx
Sophia is a Private Client Advisor with April King. Prior to embarking on her legal career, she gained extensive experience in property development and management, having previously ran the picturesque High Tor Hotel in beautiful Matlock. In her free time, she loves hiking and reading.
Adam Hampson MSc
Adam completed his legal training with the highly respected University of Law, achieving his Masters in Law and Business Management (MSc) with Distinction. Prior to that, he studied law at Cardiff University. He currently looks after our clients in the West Midlands area, alongside Taaha Ahmed.
Amber Millar LL.M
Amber is a Private Client Advisor and Trainee Solicitor at April King. Prior to joining the April King team, Amber completed a range of placements with various solicitors’ firms and barristers’ chambers. She studied Law and Criminology with the University of Sheffield and studied comparative law in Korea at the International Summer School at Korea University. Amber also completed an Erasmus year at the Paris Institute of Political Science. She was later awarded the LL.M (Master of Laws) in Legal Practice by the University of Sheffield with Merit, focusing her dissertation on Austerity and the CPS.
Andrew Baxter LL.M
Andrew is a Private Client Advisor and Trainee Solicitor at April King. Prior to joining the team at April King, Andrew studied politics with the University of Nottingham before studying law with the University of York and graduating in 2019. He went on to study the LL.M LPC (Master of Laws in Legal Practice) at the BPP law school in Birmingham.
Stephanie Cooper LL.M
Stephanie is a Private Client Advisor and Trainee Solicitor at April King. She attained her LL.B (Bachelor of Laws) with first-class honours from the University of Northampton before attending BPP Law School in Cambridge to complete the LL.M (Master of Laws) in Legal Practice with Commendation. Her dissertation discussed the possibility of recognising AI machinery as legal persons. Prior to joining the team, Stephanie has experience volunteering with a number of legal advice clinics. She speaks both Spanish and Japanese, and in her spare time she enjoys reading and judo.
Sophie Cairney LL.M
Sophie is a Trainee Solicitor at April King. Prior to joining the team, she worked within various industries from a young age allowing her to travel around Europe. Sophie achieved both the LL.B (Bachelor of Laws), Legal Practice Course and Masters in Law from Manchester Metropolitan University.
Sarah King is Head of Client Support and she has been with the firm for more than 20 years. She assists both new and existing clients with the drafting of Wills and ensures clients matters are dealt with swiftly and efficiently.
Owen King is Operations Manager at April King Legal. He works at our Head Office in Nottingham where his primary focus is identifying new areas of growth and building on existing commercial partnerships, making sure we meet the needs of our clients every step of the way.
Andy’s role within April King Legal is that of a Document Storage Manager. His previous management experience came as an IT Project Manager working across a number of countries over a 20 year period. Andy is ITIL qualified in Service Management. His main interests outside of work are his family, football and travelling. Andy says the most appealing part of his role is the interaction he has with his fellow colleagues, helping them to offer the best possible customer service to our client base.
Lisa is a Customer Care Advisor in our support team, dealing with enquiries and booking appointments. She also assists with Lasting Power of Attorney documents and file audits. Lisa says she enjoys helping people and providing good customer service. Making Wills and LPAs can be daunting for some people and she gets satisfaction from assisting them through the process to a positive conclusion. Prior to joining the team, Lisa gained more than 25 years in customer care and service roles. Outside of work, Lisa’s interests include walking, reading, gardening and spending time with her Grandchild.
Catriona Wilcock-Weston LL.B, LL.M
Catriona assists the team with Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorneys. She holds an undergraduate degree in Law with Criminology from Sheffield Hallam University, and she completed her LPC / LL.M (Master of Laws in Legal Practice) with Nottingham Trent University.

Anika holds the LL.B (Bachelor of Laws) from Nottingham Trent University.
