If you’re visiting one of our lawyers or independent solicitors in Bedford, why not make a day of it? There are many things to see and do in Bedford from museums, historical sights and landmarks to countryside parks.
For those who love history, the remnant of Bedford’s medieval castle, Bedford Castle Mound, is located close to the centre of the modern town, less than one hundred yards from Bedford Bridge and High Street. You can also explore Bedford’s grand St Paul’s church, which has a tall iconic spire. Bedford also boasts a beautiful park, located north of the town Centre. The park also retains many original features from its Victorian design and construction, including a cricket pavilion and bandstand which are both still in use. You may also like to visit the Higgings Art Gallery and Museum, which has local history collections, notable collections of watercolours, prints and drawings, ceramics, lace and glass. The Panacea Museum is also worth a visit if you are interested in finding out about the formation of the Panacea society and their religious community that was founded in the early twentieth century. Furthermore, you may wish to explore the Bedford Corn Exchange, which is the largest entertainment venue in the town and has hosted many great entertainers such as Glenn Miller and Bob Hope. The University of Bedfordshire Theatre also has some great entertainment, hosting many large productions. The Bedford River Festival is the second largest outdoor event in the UK, after the Notting Hill Carnival. This takes place in early July and is a music lover’s paradise.
For those who love sports, Bedford has long established rugby and football clubs with regular games you may wish to see if you are in the area. Rowing is also a popular sport in Bedford, with a number of Regatta events hosted from February to October. Both the Bedford Regatta and Bedford Kayak Marathon are popular.
