Carlton Town Football Club have announced that the Loughborough Dynamo clash on Saturday 11th November is to held in honour and memory of Paul Shelton, with Paul’s ashes to be buried inside the goal along with former chairman Bill Stokeld’s and Chuck Fowler’s. Paul’s family will be guests of honour for the game.
Paul acted as long-serving secretary to the Club, celebrating 40 years last season with big party in the Clubhouse. He passed at just 60 years of age following a period of illness. The news left many of the Carlton committee and staff shocked.
Chairman Mick Garton said:
“I have been Chairman for 17 years and Paul as been by my side throughout that time as Secretary at the club. He was brilliant at his job and cared deeply for the club, often putting his own money in to help pay towards the outgoings. He worked for the love of the club – never taking out, always putting in – and was an invaluable member of our team. Not having him around is going to be so strange and equally difficult for so many of us.”
“The funeral was very moving and it was lovely to see how many people turned out to pay their respects. It is fitting that it will be the Loughborough Dynamo game – John Bryson at Loughborough was one of the many people who rung me offering their condolences and it was clear, he was deeply saddened and shocked by Paul’s death.”
Following Paul’s death, club Physio Trevor Wells unveiled a new club shirt with Shelts on it and the number 40 – the number of years Paul had been at the club.
April King Legal are proud sponsors of Carlton Town Football Club. Our team would like to express their very best wishes and deepest sympathies to Paul Shelton’s family and friends.
